According to the latest statistics, 80% of the population have gum disease. Studies have shown that gum disease can cause havoc elsewhere in the body. Everyone should be checked for periodontal disease, because if it is caught early enough, non-surgical treatment may suffice. If surgical treatment is needed, Dr. Timko has been a leader in minimally invasive surgery in Pittsburgh. He has been the first to be trained in the latest minimally invasive techniques, including laser gum surgery, or LANAP. This is the first FDA approved laser treatment for periodontal disease. It has been shown in peer reviewed Dental Journals, to result in true periodontal regeneration, (new bone growth and gum tissue reattachment in periodontal defects). Dr. Timko is the first Board Certified Periodontist in Pittsburgh who has completed all training in the LANAP procedure. The LANAP procedure involves no cutting, or stitches, and very minimal post-operative discomfort. Dr. Timko was also the first Board Certified Periodontist in Pittsburgh who was trained in The Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique to treat gum recession. This is another minimally invasive surgical technique which does not require stitches. If you are suffering from receding gums or are in need of dental implants please call our office today to schedule an appointment for these or other minimally invasive procedures!
