LANAP or Laser assisted new attachment procedure, which is often referred to as Laser Gum Surgery, is a patented therapy, utilizing a Nd:YAG laser, at a 1064 wavelength, for treatment of periodontitis (gum disease). This minimally invasive surgical procedure has FDA approval.
Dr. Timko is the first board certified periodontist in Pittsburgh to be certified in LANAP. This approach is ideal for patients who have a fear associated with conventional surgery, because LANAP involves no incisions with a scalpel, no sutures, and less post-opertive discomfort. Less time in the dental chair, less gum recession, and faster post-operative recovery are other benefits of LANAP.
There is still no cure for periodontal disease, however this new method has proven to be an effective treatment of periodontitis or gum disease. For our patients who are hesitant to get treatment through the LANAP laser, conventional flap surgery is always offered as an option, and in some cases it will still be the best option.
